Dem Congressman Arrested in DACA Protest, Media Dead Silent (Details)

Illinois Democrat Congressman Luis Gutierrez will not seek re-election in 2018. He is, however, reportedly considering a run for president in 2020. Now, Gutierrez has been arrested for the second time this year alone!

From Daily Caller:

Democratic Rep. Luis Gutierrez of Illinois was one of the 200 protesters arrested on the steps of the United States Capitol Wednesday afternoon.

The sitting member of Congress joined members of the Service Employee’s International Union (SEIU) as they stormed the steps of Congress to demanded action on DACA. Both chambers currently are considering a bipartisan measure to replace the order that allowed temporary protected status to illegal residents nationwide.

“Congress refuses to act, and it’s killing us,” one protester told The Daily Caller News Foundation. Union leaders on the ground declined a request for comment for the story.

More from The Blaze:

According to the Daily Caller, the crowd was mostly peaceful, and police did not restrain those arrested with handcuffs. A makeshift processing center held those arrested before being transported by bus to the jail.

Gutierrez announced he’s not running for his seat in the 2018, but he is considering a run for president in 2020.

More via The Hill:

Rep. Luis Gutiérrez (D-Ill.), one of the most vocal immigration reform advocates in the House, reportedly won’t run for reelection.

Three Democratic sources told Politico that Gutiérrez plans to announce Tuesday that he’s pulling his nominating petitions for the seat.

More per Politico:

The sources say that former Chicago mayoral candidate Jesus “Chuy” Garcia will begin circulating petitions for Gutierrez’s post.

Gutierrez’s spokesman, Douglas Rivlin said he couldn’t comment.

On Gutierrez’s arrest in front of Trump Tower in NYC, per Washington Examiner:

Reps. Raul Grijalva and Luis Gutierrez were arrested outside Trump Tower Tuesday afternoon after sitting in the street outside the building in Manhattan.

Reports from the scene indicated Grijalva, D-Ariz., and Gutierrez, D-Ill., were among multiple lawmakers who joined a crowd sitting in the street outside the building.

Gutierrez has zero shot of defeating President Trump. That’s just an asinine notion.

All he’s doing with these ridiculous antics is helping Trump get re-elected in three years.

So, Luis, keep up the great work! You’re killing it!
