REPORT: 94% of Immigrants in US Custody are Illegals, Costs Taxpayers Nearly $2 Billion

President Trump recently announced he’d be heading down to the border to check out prototypes of the wall that will keep out illegals.

This report confirms the U.S. needs the wall ASAP!

From Newsmax:

Ninety-four percent of the immigrants in the federal prison system are illegals — or 19 percent of all those under federal custody — at a total annual taxpayer cost of $1.87 billion, the Department of Homeland Security said.

According to a report mandated by President Donald Trump’s immigration executive order signed in January, of the 37,557 confirmed immigrants in the federal prison system, 35,334 are in the United States illegally.

Homeland Security released the figures Thursday.

The federal prison system has a total of 185,507 inmates, 19 percent of whom are confirmed illegal immigrants, according to the report.

The $1.87 billion cost is based on 2014 estimates.

In addition, DHS noted that 58,766 federal inmates are “known or suspected” to be illegal.

Overall, the report found that more than one-in-five of all persons in custody under the Federal Bureau of Prisons were foreign born, and that 94 percent of confirmed aliens in custody were illegals.

“The American people deserve a lawful system of immigration that serves the national interest,” Attorney General Sessions said in releasing the data. “But at the border and in communities across America, our citizens are being victimized by illegal aliens who commit crimes.

Fox News has more:

This past October, the Trump administration announced it was seeking several major changes to the country’s immigration system, as the president pushes forward with his plans for a wall along the Mexico border. The requests included additional crackdowns on “sanctuary cities” that protect illegal immigrants; reducing the number of incoming refugees; 10,000 more Customs and Border Patrol agents; and new initiatives curbing the number of unaccompanied immigrants who come to the U.S. illegally as children. Democrats already have said many of the White House’s terms are off the table.

It remains unclear when the wall might actually go up. Trump campaigned on building it and set an ambitious timetable for construction. But aside from potential funding and political complications, there have been court challenges from geologists.

Critics also have said the barrier would be ineffective and costly. On the campaign trail, Trump said Mexico would pay for the bill, which Mexico has flatly denied. The actual cost of the wall has not been clear.

Time for Congress to build the wall!

Well past time, actually.

Trump can only do so much to make America great again if Congress is unwilling to act.
