Trump Makes Game-Changing Announcement About Tillerson’s Future [Details]

Rumors have swirled for months claiming Secretary of State Rex Tillerson was on his way out. Most recently, a report said Tillerson would be replaced by CIA Director Mike Pompeo who would be replaced by Arkansas Sen. Tom Cotton. President Trump has decided to set the record straight.

From The Hill:

Tillerson and Trump have frequently been at odds, with Tillerson reportedly saying after one exchange that Trump was a “moron.” After Tillerson’s remark was reported, the feud became even more pronounced, with Trump challenging Tillerson to an IQ test.

Tillerson has also been under fire for his leadership of the department, which has suffered from low morale, organizational confusion and unfilled appointments under Tillerson.

Enter Trump:

The media has been speculating that I fired Rex Tillerson or that he would be leaving soon – FAKE NEWS! He’s not leaving and while we disagree on certain subjects, (I call the final shots) we work well together and America is highly respected again!

CNN has more:

Reports that the White House has a tentative plan to replace Secretary of State Rex Tillerson that emerged Thursday were an effort to express President Donald Trump’s deep displeasure and publicly shame his secretary of state, a source with direct knowledge of the White House’s thinking said Thursday.

The hope from the White House, the source said, is to push out the plan to replace Tillerson and then “wait for him to punch out.”

The news that the White House is seriously considering replacing Tillerson with CIA Director Mike Pompeo comes as Trump remains deeply frustrated with his secretary of state, another source familiar with the President’s thinking said.

And the plan is not just being considered at the staff level, but by the President himself, the source said.

So, there you go. Rex is not on his way out. Trump is happy with his work – and that’s that. However, there has to be something to all those rumors, no?
