John McCain is doing everything he can to oppose President Trump, which does nothing but provide the far left with ammunition. Now, Arizona’s senior senator has decided to oppose all Trump nominees who are in favor of ‘enhanced interrogation.’
The Hill has the scoop:
Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) says he’ll oppose any Trump administration nominee who has backed torture.
“I cannot in good conscience vote for any nominee who in any way has supported the use of enhanced interrogation,” McCain said in a statement on Wednesday.
His statement was first reported by Politico.
His comments came after McCain was the lone Republican senator to vote against the confirmation of Steven Engel, President Trump’s pick to head the Justice Department’s Office of Legal Counsel. The office provides legal counsel to the president and executive agencies.
During a recent speech at the US Naval Academy, McCain took direct aim at the president and blasted his ‘America First’ policies, per BizPac Review:
McCain warned about nationalist and isolationist ideas that threaten democracies, saying “it’s time to wake up.”
“We have gone from an interval when the global success of democracy seemed assured to a time in which the seductions of authoritarian rule find favor with many; when self-interested leadership excuses naked aggression with weak rationalizations; when ethnic grievances haunt the old and religious fanaticism fires the minds of the misguided young,” he said, contrasting past decades of American history with the present.
“We are asleep to the necessity of our leadership, and to the opportunities and real dangers of this world,” he said. “We are asleep in our echo chambers, where our views are always affirmed and information that contradicts them is always fake. We are asleep in our polarized politics, which exaggerates our differences, looks for scapegoats instead of answers.”
He recounted how American statesmen in the wake of World War II knew “that tyranny is always a threat to peace” and that “there could be no more isolationism, no more tired resignation — no more ‘America First.’”
Get it together, McCain! This is not helping America in any way.
