Sitting New Jersey Senator Bob Menendez was the first person from the upper chamber to be on trial in decades. The far left MSM didn’t make a fuss over it. Now, the judge has declared a mistrial in the case and Menendez is taking aim at his opponents. However, GOP Senate leader Mitch McConnell isn’t about to let ol’ Bob off the hook just yet.
From North Jersey:
A relieved U.S. Bob Menendez stood outside the federal courthouse Thursday in the bracing winds of a fast-moving cold front and proclaimed that this is a “day of resurrection.”
But in reality, Menendez remains in a political purgatory.
Thursday’s mistrial proved to be a long-awaited, legal moment of relief for Menendez after 11 weeks of a plodding, life-in-the-balance trial and spending five relentless years under federal investigators microscope.
Yet, Menendez’ political future remains clouded in uncertainty. While the state’s Democratic leadership offered fulsome support for Menendez’s reelection race next year, several land mines remain in his path.
The U.S. Justice Department could seek to retry the case, which means a re-airing of much of the same bribery charges would haunt the campaign. And then there is the revival of a dormant Senate Ethics Committee investigation into the charges that Salomon Melgen, a Florida eye doctor and long-time Menendez friend, essentially put Menendez on his payroll through lavish bribes and campaign contributions.
From The Hill:
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) said on Thursday that the Senate Ethics Committee should investigate Sen. Robert Menendez (D-N.J.) after his bribery and corruption trial ended in a mistrial.
“Because of the seriousness of these charges, I am calling on the Senate Ethics committee to immediately investigate Senator Menendez’s actions which led to his indictment,” McConnell said in a statement.
He added that “Senator Menendez was indicted on numerous federal felonies. He is one of only twelve U.S. senators to have been indicted in our history.”

Let’s hope an ethics investigation crushes this far left senator for good.
