Will she or won’t she?
That is the question on everyone’s mind, regarding a potential 2020 presidential run from billionaire celebrity Oprah Winfrey.
Pundits have been swooning.
From Fox News:
In the wake of her Golden Globes speech Sunday night, Oprah’s people were talking up the prospect. Her longtime partner Stedman Graham told the L.A. Times, “It’s up to the people. She would absolutely do it.”
And NBC seemed to be on board. “Nothing but respect for OUR future president,” the network tweeted in a huge embarrassment for its news division. (NBC yesterday deleted the tweet, saying it had been posted by a “third party” and was supposed to relate to a joke on the show. I think a special prosecutor needs to investigate how this shadowy third party got the Twitter nuclear codes.)
“It’s difficult to totally dismiss the idea of Winfrey 2020,” says the Washington Post.
“Oprah 2020 cannot be laughed off. This could really work,” says the Daily Beast.
Now, it’s clear. Oprah says she doesn’t ‘have the DNA’ to run for president.
From The Hill:
Oprah Winfrey in an interview appeared to dismiss speculation on a potential 2020 presidential run, saying she does not have the DNA to launch a bid for the White House.
“I’ve always felt very secure and confident with myself in knowing what I could do and what I could not. And so it’s not something that interests me. I don’t have the DNA for it,” Winfrey told InStyle Magazine’s editor-in-chief, Laura Brown, in an interview published Thursday.
Speculation that Winfrey would launch a 2020 bid reached a fever pitch earlier this month after the celebrity delivered a stirring speech addressing the “Me Too” and “Times Up” movements at the Golden Globes.
Even though Democrats never truly loved the idea of Oprah as president, the country can now rest easy.
