South Carolina Congressman Trey Gowdy was rumored to be a top choice for attorney general if Donald Trump became president. Obviously, we know 45 went a different route. Gowdy, however, is a fine lawmaker and a stand up guy. But, this Hillary Clinton bomb he dropped on Fox News isn’t exactly what conservatives wanted to hear.
On Wednesday’s broadcast of the Fox News Channel’s “America’s Newsroom,” House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chair and House Judiciary Committee member Representative Trey Gowdy (R-SC) argued that the threshold for appointing a special counsel to investigate Hillary Clinton hasn’t been reached, and the needed investigations into Clinton can be done without one.
More, from Talking Points Memo:
“‘Looks like’ is not enough basis to appoint a special counsel,” [AG Jeff] Sessions said. “You can have your idea, but sometimes we have to study what the facts are and to evaluate whether it meets the standard that requires a special counsel.”
Gowdy said he did not sign a letter Republican lawmakers sent Sessions asking for a special counsel’s appointment to investigate those matters.
“Jim Jordan is a great friend. I have tremendous respect for him. I didn’t sign the letter, because I don’t think the threshold has been met for an appointment of special counsel,” he said. “To say we’re not going to appoint special counsel is not to say we aren’t going to look into anything.”
Could it honestly be that there isn’t enough evidence to charge corrupt Hillary with something? Anything?
