Rapper Eminem is known for making homophobic slurs.
In the film The Interview, Em, playing an exaggerated version of himself, “comes out” as a gay man.
In a recent (real) interview, Marshall Mathers reveals that he has used the gay dating app, Grindr.
Do you date?
It’s tough. Since my divorce I’ve had a few dates and nothing’s panned out in a way that I wanted to make it public. Dating’s just not where I’m at lately.
When you were dating, how’d you meet people? Tinder?
I mean, yeah.
Are you being serious?
[Laughs] And Grindr. I also used to go to strip clubs.
I think a lot of long-term relationships start in strip clubs.
What can I say? Going to strip clubs is how I was meeting some chicks. It was an interesting time for me.
Is fame lonely for you?
Am I lonely? No, I’m good. Thanks for asking though.
The Sun has some reactions:
“How the hell you let Eminem say that he uses Grindr in an interview and not ask what scene he is into?” asked Khylar.
Elijah Clark-Ginsberg said: “There’s been a lot of great journalism in 2017, but the reported who didn’t ask Eminem any followup questions about using Grindr has let down their entire profession.”
But perhaps the voice of reason in this entire situation was David Drake who mused: “Am I missing something or is it not obvious the Eminem Grindr thing was a joke?”
Eminem, gay? Who would’ve figured?
Maybe he was joking, maybe he wasn’t. We may never know…
